MALDEN, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The owner of a pizza place in Malden said he "could not be more proud" of his staff for choosing to stay on and make pizzas to feed first responders and others in need during the coronavirus pandemic.
Pisa Pizza is calling it their "unplanned Pay In Forward Movement." The restaurant has received $17,000 in donations so far, and workers have been busy making and delivering pizzas to "first responders, hospital staff, elderly, homeless, and neighbors in need."
"Every one of the hospitals that we've hit, they've responded with letters of thank you's, and phone calls with tears," said Joe Crowley, owner of Pisa Pizza. "They're so stressed out, and it's just nice for us to be able to show up and put that smile on their face."
Crowley told WBZ NewsRadio his employees have chosen to stay on and make pizzas, when they had the option to stay home.
"I couldn't be more proud of my crew," Crowley said. "In 28 years of business, it's the most proud I've ever been."
