BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Police and city workers successfully rescued a ducking that fell into the sewer near Boston Police Headquarters Thursday.

The trouble began when officers stopped traffic to help a mother duck and her ducklings cross Tremont Street.

"While moving the brood, one of the ducklings fell into the sewer," Boston Police wrote on their blog.

BPD got help from Boston Water and Sewer to remove the sewer grate, and fished the little duckling out using a shovel.

He was reunited with his mother and eleven brothers and sisters, and Boston Animal Control relocated the family to Jamaica Pond.
