Marvelyne Lamy

Name: Marvelyne Lamy

From: Boston, MA (West Roxbury)

About Woman Of The Week: Marvelyne Lamy was born and raised in Boston, MA. Since the early age of 4, she’s had a deep love of learning and a deep hunger for books. She would always read. Her love of learning followed her when she attended Boston Latin Academy. It was there, that Marvelyne thought that’d she would pursue a career in the medical field. That quickly changed when she went to college and realized that the sight of blood made her sick. She changed career paths and decided to pursue a career in law. That career too seemed unfulfilling, and she changed career paths again and settled on Education and quickly fell in love.

Just last year, Marvelyne completed an Urban Teaching Fellowship at City on A Hill Charter School. She is currently teaching 7th grade English at Davis Leadership Academy. She says that the job keeps her young and everyday is different than the next. A couple of weeks ago, she graduated with her Masters in Education from Boston University and hopes to continue to pursue higher learning to receive a Doctorate with the hope of becoming principal to her own school.

Marvelyne was in the limelight recently after calling out the Museum of Fine Arts for racially profiling her students. She wants to hold the museum accountable and continues to speak out against them.
