The New 97.7 Woman Of The Week - Week Of January 7, 2018

Name: Deborah Re
From: South End

About Woman Of The Week: Deb has made a lifelong investment in her community, and especially our Boston’s youth. She was born and raised in Roslindale, lived in Jamaica Plain for much of her adult life, and now resides in the South End, so she is Boston through and through.Deb’s commitment to youth development began early in her career, when she entered the field of elementary education. Eventually Deb moved to the private sector where she honed her leadership skills in financial management and developed an interest in mentorship over the course of 16 years.

As Deb began her transition to the non-profit sector, she leveraged her leadership experience to start her own company, called Bridges to Business that specialized in training and placing young adults with non-traditional backgrounds into the workforce. Deb’s passion for youth development, service, and the City that she calls home became fully realized when she took on the role of Executive Director at City Year Boston.

In 2006, she was chosen to become the head of Big Sister Boston, the only Big Brothers Big Sisters of America affiliate in the country solely serving women and girls. They offer a variety of programs to provide positive mentoring relationships to girls in our community, in our schools, and even in Big Sister’s workplaces throughout Boston. During her tenure at Big Sister Boston, Deb has received several notable honors in recognition of her dedication to leadership, mentoring, and our community. These awards include: the 2011 Changing People’s Lives award from Grand Circle Corporation, 2015 Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce Pinnacle Award for Achievement in Management in the Nonprofit Sector, and the 2015 National Agency of the Year Award from the National Leadership Council of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, and she was named one of the 2016 Women of Influence by the Boston Business Journal. Throughout Deb’s career she has demonstrated a deep commitment to elevating diverse voices, lifelong learning, and ensuring that all youth are seen, heard, and valued.

Deborah Re is President and CEO of Big Sister Boston and in her spare time she is an avid hula hoop-er, and will never turn down the opportunity to use one!
